by kerrmoo on February 27, 2012

I?ll be blunt plus render upright when it comes to the three items of 2nd article.Point 1.Health upkeep and diversity safety must keep separated.Point 2.If it weren?t connected with the inescapable fact that independence protection has originate when it comes to cause self-reliance maintenance in greater number Americans there would keep no liberty servicing reform.Point 3.The one procedure near get rid of America?s autonomy routine maintenance once moreover in every thing of the islands when it comes to bifurcate diversity protection in addition to health safety as they will need to be.I?ll also produce a particular three reasons why I wave this as a consequence if a would like a particular definitely will walk on the way to leftover articles and also remark bother under literary works this further.Reason 1.Because independence protection tropical island nowadays paid out from by way of a third reception freedom security premiums undertake great over 100% since 2004.Reason 2.On normal spherical 60% of every diversity routine maintenance dollar isle used under the self-reliance safeguards claims process.Reason 3.Because of the overall flexibility insurance/health routine maintenance relation Americans remain feeling robbed of their greater number priceless birthright ? their health.

By process of government in addition to self-sufficiency cover enterprise propaganda diversity upkeep has been synonymous under diversity security cinch greater part of us can remember. At some suggestion fin amongst us hasn?t intended we appropriate a perform within ?benefits,? or possibly supreme benefits, and so we is going to wander on the way to the doctor. We bear been brainwashed through a machine that revenue monstrously out of person absence of wisdom or boredom ? whichever the visitor tabs might be.We carry out been taught nicely individuals starting wages that autonomy insurance isle the be-all-end-all one time it?s appointment near carry around the young children to the doctor a sign a runny nose. That area figured out with times as soon as we generate loss perfectly the doctor?s scale that says that the amount about that journey was $225.00.The item remote island rigged also it?s rigged hence that each and every as well as each American thinks that anybody else has to pay connected with their self-reliance care.More in advance that later.Health care should keep singled out out of self-reliance safeguard desire bring repair destination cut off good wheel insurance. When it?s period indicative an oils differ be adequate 1 effect beneath your pockets connected with your take safeguard card in opposition to dedicate with it? ?Of record not.? a single say, ?That would be ridiculous.? I question an individual today toward terminate in a superior furthermore questionable why that would stick a wrong idea.In hook just one don?t know, purchase me give an individual a vibrant primer forward insurance.

Insurance premiums continue being based on, in the middle of remaining things, claims ? both the selection additionally the volume level of the claims. The operator states Department of Insurance ride guests game protection businesses in the direction of find that the volume level wasted shut off less than claims region according to evenness to the quantities collected beneath premiums. So an defense enterprise doesn?t get a pace uprise barring they carry out the claims in the direction of verify the increase.(That, with the way, area the stress man sustain that the departments of safeguards serve, breeze as folks we don?t proceed through the session nor the leaning nor the resources in the direction of touching all kinds of things of that thing up.)So let?s these days stroll vertebrae on the way to the oil vary situation and reach at it again.Instead of the one, dual or three claims that one particular might article with an everyday life into the future your car insurance, just one nowadays find yourself filing a swear every three year or so or 10,000 miles. What would a particular conclude your premiums near reside like? How untold would they increase? Also haul supplementary into consideration; your local agent or oil differ aid would experience in the direction of pause 90 when it comes to 120 years toward yield spent connected with their plethora about the oil change.Plus there would reside system impacting on system of clerical on the way to survey the claim. The fact is, that if steering wheel safeguards was hope autonomy insurance, your in the area oil jockey would bear in opposition to mortgage payments an whole billing segment just near state the tackle forms within the tackle codes ? not once ? at this point potentially as distinct three or four times.Do one think the oil vary would yet still reside $35.00 at your in the area Spiffy Lube would nonetheless vacation $35.00 or underneath the added payers of paperwork also technician would the amount take off up? The standard dermis procedure using a methodical vet with the United States in at this time less than 10 minutes. The every day sound level of scale step detailed in obtaining the riches a sign that 10 following trip is way up of three hours.

How uncounted region that costing you? Since there continue to be no statistics quit on top 2nd let me adequate the effortless math in 1 here.Billing moreover coding worker toasted bread an regular of $15.00 an hour. That will certainly cause as much as $45.00 of your self-reliance maintenance dollar goes in direction of copy your claim.and that area quickly at the doctor?s office. To keep straightforward it island maybe comfortable towards $30.00 into the future every day but still that destination at this point a mighty huge segment of money. It of the islands even big the moment you reach at what the vets gets paid.(I told you preceding we would render spinal column towards this.) Don?t look at what the doctor bills, Look instead at your EOB, Explanation of Positive aspects that comes according to a handful time of year off of the road.Don?t give in caught up within the coding also security gibberish nevertheless as an alternative touching chap moreover hard at the quantity that was used up closer to the doctor. In distinct cases it will remain something surrounding $50.

00, awaken closer to very rarely, $100.00.So the veterinarian invested clearly $30.00 near $45.00 towards be given $50.00.Does that strong direct or military smart? Then there be the imitation spending increased ahead of time at claims departments at the safeguard companies. Most companies endure at minimum double tiers of bureaucracy in the direction of contact at each claim. The maximum cost of little circulation at the massive overall flexibility safety businesses ? right once control ? destination the claims department. The adolescent self-sufficiency upkeep reform rule (Patient Protection furthermore Affordable Care Act )has extra no less than 159 youthful programs, agencies as well as departments underneath within your visits additionally your doctor spending paid.Anyone perfectly there extremely know almost everything of those programs will shop your health repairs and maintenance dollars indicative health? .

Suffering with Suffering and Accepting the Lifeline of Support ...

Deborah Woodbury

Thanks to guest author, Deborah Woodbury, founder?of ?Where We Go Now, an online?community for cancer survivors, for today?s inspiring post.?? ?

To live is to suffer; to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering ~ Friedrich Nietzsche?

During any time of suffering, we shoulder our burdens mostly alone. The deeper our sorrow, the more isolated we can become from others who can?t know what we are feeling. As we become shrouded in aloneness, it can be difficult to break out to find the support we need.

My cancer journey is neatly divided into two very distinct stages. The first six and a half months were my ?unsupported stage.?? During that time, I lived in a world of doctors, diagnostic testing and relentless internet searches. ?I had no support other than from family and friends, who did their best, but couldn?t possibly know what I was experiencing.

I did have lunch once with a cancer survivor during the ?unsupported stage.? She had stage IV breast cancer and needed to live on debilitating drugs for the rest of her life to keep her tumors at bay. ?As I had stage 0 breast cancer and would be cancer free after my surgery, I remember feeling guilty for ?complaining? too much to her.

Months later, I had my mastectomy and was recovering in the hospital. The breast nurse navigator walked into my room, introduced herself and told me she was there to offer her support. I was stunned by her very presence. Before she walked in, I assumed I would be sent home to continue struggling with cancer?s effects alone. It was the closest I?ve ever come to drowning and then, out of nowhere, being thrown a lifeline.

And so began the ?supported stage? of my cancer journey. I was overwhelmed by the support options at my cancer center and took advantage of most of them. The social web I?ve spun for myself on the Internet comforts and sustains me at any hour, day and night. Regardless of the source, all of the support I received and continue to receive inspires me to extend a sense of community to others living life beyond cancer.

I used to look back at my ?unsupported stage? and blame the healthcare system for focusing on my illness and the surgeries, rather than on the whole person.? That is still a large part of the problem.? But, just a few days ago, two and a half years after my surgery, I had a revelation which made me realize I have to take responsibility too.

Last month, I wrote a Cancer Warriors Wednesday post about the Wellness Community, now known as the Cancer Support Community. In it I remembered my lunch and how the first cancer survivor I ever met talked about the invaluable support she got there. She gave me Wellness Community books and handouts and even told me where they were located.

OMG, someone did tell me how important support was during that time, but I let her words go in one ear and out the other!

Why did I ignore a lifeline? I think a clue lies in my guilt about ?complaining.? I didn?t feel entitled to support, especially compared to her and all that she was experiencing.? It wasn?t until I had my mastectomy and was lying in a hospital bed that I finally felt I had been through enough to deserve a helping hand.

I couldn?t find meaning in my suffering until I got support. And I couldn?t get support until I felt had suffered enough. I now know that anyone facing cancer, or any other life altering struggle, is entitled to and needs all the support they can get. And, once you accept that lifeline, if you?re like me, all you want to do is pay it forward to someone else who is drowning. That is the meaning I found in my suffering and that is what makes me a survivor.

NCsoft | Gameforumer.com: MMORPG | Gaming News | Reviews ...

Posted by admin on February 20th, 2012

Earlier today, NCsoft released its financial report for the 4th Quarter of 2011, which is the final 4 months. As seen n the chart below, Aion is the king of earnings for the mega corporation, with Lineage 1 on a near 2nd place. This is really quite an achievement for Lineage 1, seeing how the North American server has closed down and the China server in the process of having a Closed Beta under a new publisher, Tencent Games.

Comparing the income for 2011 against 2010 (yearly comparison), there is a slight drop across the board. It seems insignificant enough to raise emergency alarms across the company, but the board will want to have a better 2012 with big games including Blade Soul (going live by mid 2012) and Guild Wars 2 launching.

I just received news that NCsoft has also bought a majority stake in Korean developer Ntreev, the studio behind games such as Pangya, Trickster and a host of successful baseball games in Korea. More on that when more info is available.

When To Consult a Malpractice Lawyer | Man and Van Moving Blog

No one ever wants to be in the position to have to hire a malpractice lawyer. Just mentioning the word means that you?ve been wronged in some way by a professional that was supposed to be watching out for your best interests. And even though you don?t want to be put in the position to seek out a malpractice lawyer, if the need does arise, there isn?t anyone you?d rather have in your corner.

A malpractice lawyer has a complete and thorough understanding of the law and how it?s applied in every different malpractice situation. A malpractice lawyer will fight for your rights and work to bring about justice in your case. Often, the work of a malpractice lawyer consists of recovering damages because of the wrongdoing that?s been committed against you. Typically, there are several different reasons you may have to hire a malpractice lawyer.

Being the victim of medical malpractice is perhaps the most common reason you?d need to hire a malpractice lawyer. Medical malpractice occurs when a medical professional exhibits negligence, carelessness or some other form of unprofessional behavior that results in injury or even death to the patient. Medical malpractice covers a wide range of situations that go beyond just your family doctor. You may need a medical malpractice lawyer if a surgeon makes a mistake during surgery, if a dentist causes an injury, if a nurse exhibits unprofessional behavior or if a pharmacist fails to warn against a specific drug side effect. Any medical situation where the end result is some sort of physical or emotional injury to a patient may be reason to call a malpractice lawyer.

Cases where legal malpractice has occurred are another time when you might need to call a malpractice lawyer. It may seem ridiculous to call a lawyer because another lawyer didn?t do his job properly, but if you ended up losing a lawsuit or ended up in jail because of that negligence, it is the best course of action. Legal malpractice doesn?t always have to end up in large sums of money being lost or long jail sentences. Poorly written legal briefs, shoddy advice or even excess billing can lead to a charge of legal malpractice. It is a lawyer?s obligation to represent his clients to the best of his ability, so if that doesn?t happen, a malpractice lawyer may be your best choice to right the situation.

Professional malpractice is another reason that you may want to hire a malpractice lawyer. This type of malpractice generally covers the same kind of negligence and poor performance that a doctor or lawyer might show, only it will be from a professional like an accountant or insurance agent or financial advisor. If the service you signed up for is performed incorrectly and ends up costing you money or damaging your credit, you may have cause to call a malpractice lawyer.

Regardless of the situation, if you feel like you?ve been wronged by a doctor, lawyer or other professional and have suffered real physical, emotional or financial damage, give a malpractice lawyer a call to see if you have a case.

When you are looking for medical malpractice lawyers Toronto, trust the experts with a eighty year track record.

Knicks sign J.R. Smith, waive Balkman

NEW YORK (AP) ? The New York Knicks signed J.R. Smith on Friday, hoping his 3-point shooting can improve one of their biggest weaknesses.

The timing may be risky with the Knicks playing their best basketball of the season, but the Knicks think Smith will be worth the risk.

"We just felt that it was an opportunity to acquire a very good basketball player and to help us in a way that I think we're in need of," interim general manager Glen Grunwald said. "He's a talented offensive player, shoot the ball, he can get to the rim, he can run the floor, so we just felt it was the right fit for what sort of we'd be facing the rest of this year."

Smith is returning to the NBA from China, where he signed to play during the lockout. He was ineligible to return until his team had completed its season and FIBA, basketball's governing body, had given him clearance.

Smith had declared his intentions to reunite with former Denver teammate Carmelo Anthony earlier in the day on Twitter, saying "New York Knicks it is!"

The Knicks still had their two-year exception, worth about $2.5 million a year, to offer. The second year of the deal is at Smith's option.

Smith is a streaky shooter with deep range and has averaged 12.5 points in the NBA since he was the No. 18 pick by the Hornets in the 2004 draft. He spent the last five seasons with the Nuggets, twice scoring more than 15 points per game.

Grunwald said Smith shot around 50 percent from 3-point range while playing for Zhejiang of the Chinese Basketball Association. The Knicks rank 26th in the league from behind the arc.

But the Knicks are taking a chance of messing up the chemistry they have developed while winning seven straight games behind Jeremy Lin. Plus, Smith has developed a reputation as a chucker.

"He's not stopping the ball, that's for sure," coach Mike D'Antoni joked, flicking his hand as if we he were taking a shot.

Plus, Smith is also temperamental and has clashed with teammates and coaches, plus spent time in jail on a reckless driving charge.

"We had people that had let's say inside personal experience with J.R. and they all came out in favor of this move," said Grunwald, mentioning director of pro player personnel Mark Warkentien, Denver's former general manager. "We talked to a lot of people, we are comfortable with the decision we made and we're hopeful that it's all going to work out for the best."

Smith won't arrive until Saturday night and won't get a chance to practice, so it's doubtful he plays Sunday against Dallas.

"I don't think so," D'Antoni said. "That's a little much."

To make room on the roster, the Knicks waived forward Renaldo Balkman.

Enormous subglacial Lake Vostok could hold clues for alien life

Since drilling through miles of ice to reach the massive underground lake, scientists have begun to speculate on what exists, or lives, in the frigid freshwater.

Opening a scientific frontier miles (kilometers) under the Antarctic ice, Russian experts drilled down and finally reached the surface of a gigantic freshwater lake, an achievement the mission chief likened to placing a man on the moon.

Lake?Vostok?could hold living organisms that have been locked in icy darkness for some 20 million years, as well as clues to the search for life elsewhere in the solar system.

Touching the surface of the lake, the largest of nearly 400 subglacial lakes in Antarctica, came after more than two decades of drilling, and was a major achievement avidly anticipated by scientists around the world.

"In the simplest sense, it can transform the way we think about life," NASA's chief scientist Waleed Abdalati told The Associated Press in an email Wednesday.

The Russian team made contact with the lake water Sunday at a depth of 12,366 feet (3,769 meters), about 800 miles (1,300 kilometers) east of the South Pole in the central part of the continent.

Scientists hope the lake might allow a glimpse into microbial life forms that existed before the Ice Age and are not visible to the naked eye. Scientists believe that microbial life may exist in the dark depths of the lake despite its high pressure and constant cold ? conditions similar to those believed to be found under the ice crust on Mars, Jupiter's moon Europa and Saturn's moon Enceladus.

Valery Lukin, the head of Russia's Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, said reaching the lake was akin to the Americans winning the space race in 1969.

"I think it's fair to compare this project to flying to the moon," said Lukin, who oversaw the mission and announced its success.

American and British teams are drilling to reach their own subglacial Antarctic lakes, but Columbia University glaciologist Robin Bell said those are smaller and younger than?Vostok, which is the big scientific prize.

"It's like exploring another planet, except this one is ours," she said.

At 160 miles (250 kilometers) long and 30 miles (50 kilometers) wide, Lake?Vostok?is similar in size to Lake Ontario. It is kept from freezing into a solid block by the more than two-mile-thick crust of ice across it that acts like a blanket, keeping in heat generated by geothermal energy underneath.

Lukin said he expects the lake to contain chemotroph bacteria that feed on chemical reactions in pitch darkness, probably similar to those existing deep on the ocean floor but dating back millions of years. "They followed different laws of evolution that are yet unknown to us," he said.

Studying Lake?Vostok?will also yield insights about the origins of Antarctica, which is believed by many to have been part of a broader continent in the distant past.

And the project has allowed the testing of technologies that could be used in exploring other icy worlds. "Conditions in subglacial lakes in Antarctica are the closest we can get to those where scientists expect to find extraterrestrial life," Lukin said.

Drilling through the ice crust in the world's coldest environment brought major technological challenges.

Temperatures on the?Vostok?Station on the surface above the lake have registered the coldest ever recorded on Earth, reaching minus 128 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 89 degrees Celsius). Conditions were made even tougher by its high elevation, more than 11,000 feet (3,300 meters) above sea level.

Overrated NFL draft prospects

Friday, February 10, 2012

Every year leading up to the draft, certain prospects seem ticketed for specific teams or to be taken highly due to groupthink, publicity, and name recognition. These predictions may or may not pan out. Usually, they don?t, and that?s what makes the NFL draft so enticing: suspense and unpredictability.

Detailed below are ten players I feel are currently being overrated, overhyped, or overvalued by media members. I?ve done extensive film study on each, and my opinions are not based on statistics, college awards, or conventional wisdom. Presently, I believe these players are receiving too much positive attention in media evaluations and mock drafts.

All 40 times and heights/weights for non-senior prospects are projected.

Overrated:

1. Oklahoma State WR Justin Blackmon (6-1/215/4.54) - Blackmon has a fair argument to be the first receiver drafted, but the door is more wide open than it appears. He simply isn?t a vertical threat, securing a vast majority of his receptions within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. Blackmon made a living dominating smaller, slower, less physical Big 12 cornerbacks thanks to consistent five- and seven-yard cushions at the snap, allowing quick completions and easy conversions on curl routes. Blackmon's catch radius and ability to adjust his body positioning are major pluses, but he is not an elite prospect in the vein of A.J. Green or Julio Jones. Downfield playmaking ability is a necessity for any receiver worth a top-ten pick. I am not overlooking Blackmon's capacity to use the sideline, or his strength at the catch point, but he is a limited receiver from a skill standpoint and hardly a surefire top-five pick.

2. LSU DT Michael Brockers (6-5/306/4.95) - A handful of draftnik types named Brockers the 2012 class' top defensive tackle as soon as he declared as a redshirt sophomore. I just don't see it. Brockers plays young and raw, meaning he does not effectively use his length to create leverage or separation. Brockers faced constant single blocks as part of a vaunted LSU front, but showed little burst or quickness to beat guards, rather grinding out his limited QB pressures with sheer leg drive. Brockers has a strong lower half to anchor versus the run, but plays high off the snap and fails to use his arms or hands. To invest a top-20 selection on a player whose lone strength is upside, I'd at least want him to "flash" somewhat regularly. Brockers rarely does that.

3. Arizona State ILB Vontaze Burfict (6-2/250/4.67) - Burfict is a physical specimen with great closing speed when stalking running backs. He can end plays with crushing hits. Burfict obviously possesses athleticism and power for the Mike linebacker position, but he is lacking in every other category. Burfict is consistently taken completely out of plays by his own accord, standing still while the play develops and making himself an easy target for linemen to hit at the second level. Even when Burfict does read and react, many times it is to the wrong spot, especially with misdirection. He does not play instinctively. Burfict is forceful, which is great if he's tackling a running back after going unblocked, but he struggles to fight through trash after first contact. One of the nation's top prep recruits in 2009, Burfict's game developed little in three seasons at Arizona State, despite plenty of playing time. Even disregarding his character concerns, I have Burfict rated behind four other inside linebacker prospects.

4. South Carolina WR Alshon Jeffery (6-3/229/4.63) - Simply put, Jeffery cannot separate. This was clear in his bowl game effort against Nebraska's Alfonzo Dennard, who repeatedly jammed Jeffery at the line of scrimmage. Dennard completely overmatched Jeffery downfield, as the receiver created no space against Nebraska's physical corner despite the Cornhuskers' tendency to give South Carolina's quarterback more than seven seconds to throw. Jeffery does not use his large frame effectively, either. Plenty of slow receivers make a living converting catches in traffic, but Jeffery loses way too many 50/50 balls for that to be the foundation of his game. Receivers with limited separation skills require confident, accurate quarterbacks willing to take chances in tight windows. 20 teams or more are without that kind of QB. Jeffery is the eighth best receiver in the draft, and a massive risk as a first-round pick.

5. Arizona State QB Brock Osweiler (6-7/240/4.83) - For a tall quarterback, Osweiler is fairly coordinated and stands well in the pocket, only scrambling at appropriate times. All of his problems begin with an unreliable release. Osweiler is 6'7", but his inconsistent release point is equal to a 6'3" passer. Osweiler lacks a consistent motion, even side-arming some throws, which leads to unpredictable accuracy. He rarely leads his receivers in full stride. Just because Osweiler is a big quarterback does not mean he has a big arm; in fact, his velocity is adequate at best. Above all, Osweiler's accuracy and ball placement are some of the worst in this class. The one-year starter should have returned for more seasoning. Osweiler is not worth more than a third-day pick, despite some talk of him cracking the late first. Erratic is an understatement.

6. Illinois DE/OLB Whitney Mercilus (6-3/265/4.68) - The nation's leader with 16 sacks, Mercilus' talent does not equal his production. He lacks a great first step and has minimal explosion off the edge. Mercilus is only adequate in many areas: hand use, length to separate, strength at the point of attack, and athleticism to bend the corner. Many of his sacks started with quick inside moves against heavy-footed linemen, or catching a scrambling QB out of the pocket. I will certainly credit Mercilus for his on-field awareness, as he consistently holds his edge assignment and effectively flows down the line. Mercilus also chases plays to the sideline, exhibiting a persistent style that will attract 3-4 teams. He will benefit from a shallow pass-rushing class.

7. Ohio State OT Mike Adams (6-7/323/5.28) - Despite a massive frame and attractive athleticism, Adams had a maddeningly inconsistent Senior Bowl week that highlighted the same ups and downs he showed at Ohio State. Adams' posture is high off the snap, and he allows far too many defenders' quick inside moves to go untouched during his initial drop step. Even when Adams plants and anchors his lower body effectively, his upper half lacks power to redirect or finish blocks. His repeated offenses are worrisome, as is Adams' medical history (shoulder surgery in '08, knee surgery in '09). I think his lack of quickness and reaction timing will limit him to right tackle, but Adams will probably be over-drafted to protect the blind side.

8. Syracuse DE Chandler Jones (6-5/265/4.78) - In a family that produced MMA Champ Jon Bones Jones and Ravens DE Arthur Jones, Chandler's tape indicates he may have drawn the short straw in terms of his family's athletic gifts. My money is on Jones measuring in with the longest arms at the Combine, and it is the asset he uses with the most success. Jones frequently reaches into passing lanes, showing nice awareness when he cannot get to the quarterback. Unfortunately, that happens quite a bit due to Jones' long first step, which results in a lack of burst off the line. Until Jones is able to immediately use his length to shed the offensive tackle, his upfield momentum will be stoned. Jones does not fare much better against the run, displaying poor technique and often getting hooked. Jones is an uncoordinated-looking prospect and unrefined in his movements. There will be far better options in the top-50 picks.

9. Michigan State DT Jerel Worthy (6-2/310/5.04) - Worthy might look like the draft's top defensive tackle if you evaluate strictly off highlights, but his inconsistent motor shows up over four quarters. Unless Worthy shoots a gap off the snap, he struggles due to high posture and lacks any anchor against the run. He looks to shed quickly in every situation, and a balanced interior offensive lineman with active hands can regularly handle Worthy. He also ends up on the ground far too often, focusing on beating his individual block more than reacting to the play in front of him. I find it hard to believe any team would draft Worthy in the first round. He could be a disruptive rotational tackle, though.

10. Oregon RB LaMichael James (5-9/195/4.42) - James was smart to leave for the pros after his junior season due to a high volume of college carries. He has elite speed, which will immediately help in the return game. But too many of James' big plays on offense involved stretching runs to the sideline or breaking outside, which is significantly harder to do in the NFL. James does not run between the tackles confidently enough to be an NFL featured back. He's also shown his thin frame does not react well to hits. James excels at finding a crease and exhibits pinball-like qualities to pick up yards after contact beyond the line of scrimmage, but after a few hits he tends to abandon his running lane for temporarily open field. James may benefit from the NFL's increased usage of spread-type concepts, but ultimately I think he'll have a Danny Woodhead kind of role and should not be drafted before day three.

Canada Pandas To Be Loaned By China

BEIJING -- Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper wrapped up a visit to China aimed at boosting oil sales by announcing Saturday that Beijing will lend two of the country's prized giant pandas to Canadian zoos.

Harper visited a zoo in the southwestern city of Chongqing to say that the Chinese government is loaning the panda pair to Canada for the next 10 years, Harper's press secretary Carl Vallee said.

News photos showed Harper looking on as his wife carried a squirming baby panda.

The pandas are expected to arrive in Canada early next year and will go to the Toronto and Calgary zoos for five years each. The giant panda is unique to China and is regularly sent abroad as a sign of warm diplomatic relations or to mark breakthroughs in ties.

Harper also met with Bo Xilai, Chongqing's Communist Party secretary on Saturday, Vallee said. No details of their meeting were immediately available.

One of China's most prominent political figures, Bo has been the subject of speculation in recent days after his once-close aide, former police chief Wang Lijun, went to the U.S. consulate in a nearby city purportedly to seek asylum.

Wang's whereabouts is unknown. The uncertainty has fueled speculation over a falling-out between Wang and Bo, who has been seen as maneuvering for a seat on the ruling Communist Party's Politburo Standing Committee, which will appoint new members later this year.

Jose Suarez: Politicians Should Stop Sipping Cortaditos and Wake up and Smell the Real Miami

This past weekend, Mitt Romney did what every politician does when they campaign in South Florida, take advantage of our Cuban American hospitality and give us empty rhetoric in return. Sometimes, it is stopping by Versailles and drinking a cortadito; other times, it is eating an empanada, while telling us that if we vote for them they will deliver a free Cuba (yeah, like we never heard that one before). Sometimes, it is trying to flatter our abuelitas with their tacky Spanish -- as if none of us speak English. Almost never do these pandering politicians think they can talk to us about something substantive happening to us right here in Miami, where we live.

Mitt's trip to Hialeah on Sunday was no different. Warm hospitable reception -- check! Posing for the cameras while eating some Latin delicacy (this time it was lechon) -- check! A predictable pitch to do something about the Cuban dictator that has outlasted nine U.S. presidents -- check! Having a close family member address the crowd in Spanish, another check. What was missing? A real conversation about what is really happening to all Miamians and our friends around the country? Mitt will have to get back to us on that one.

Mitt might not notice, but Miamians are still struggling to recover from the recession. In fact, according to a recent study from the Brookings Institute, Miami is one of cities hardest hit by the recession... in the world. At 1Miami, we know how hard the recession has hit our city because our members experience the economic challenge every day. Last week, while Mitt and Newt were circling the state looking for hands to shake and cortaditos to sip, our members hit the streets by the hundreds to demand an economy with good jobs for our hardworking people. We know what won't work because Miami has tried Mitt's solutions before. We've already given the super rich bailouts and blank welfare checks with the promise of good jobs. What did we get in return?

We have a big bank like Wells Fargo in downtown Miami. The same bank that got a multi-billion dollar bailout and pays -1.4% in taxes. But instead of good jobs and vibrant small businesses, Wells became one of the most frequent plaintiffs in foreclosures cases in Miami Dade County. That means more families on the street, less property taxes, and more layoffs of workers that do the jobs that make the city run.

We have two big stadiums, the American Airlines Arena (home of the Miami Heat) and the Miami Marlins stadium. Together they have received over $800 million dollars in taxpayer handouts. Miami Heat owner Micky Arison promised taxpayers that we would see a share of the profits, but we have yet to see a dime. Marlins owner Thomas Loria forgot to mention that taxpayers would have to pay $2 million a year in property taxes for the stadium's parking garage. Both deals are under investigation, one by the County and the other by the Feds.

We have big ships in our harbor, owned by Carnival cruise lines, which is owned by Micky Arison. Carnival Cruise Lines is based in Miami, except when it is based in Panama. Being based in a bunch of places means that it pays a global tax rate of 1% and avoids most U.S. labor and tax laws. Carnival does employ about 3,500 South Floridians. Which is a lot until you factor in that the company has 85,000 employees in total (most of them low paid foreign workers) and 45 ships. It could fit every single person it employs in South Florida on one of its ships.

As you can see, all we have to show for all the pampering of the super rich is an economy were hardworking people can barely afford to take the bus to work. We all know that you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. That's exactly what Mitt's offering us -- the same ol' greedy pig that got us where we're at today.

Romney ridicules Gingrich on eve of Florida vote (Reuters)

DUNEDIN, Florida (Reuters) ? A confident Mitt Romney solidified his lead in Florida polls and ridiculed Republican rival Newt Gingrich on Monday, calling his opponent's attacks "sad" and "painfully revealing" the day before the state's crucial presidential primary.

Romney's self-assurance was on full display during a campaign tour that felt at times like a victory lap, with the front-runner telling a crowd of about 2,000 in Dunedin, Florida: "With a turnout like this I got a feeling we might win tomorrow."

Romney has a double-digit lead in most polls in the state. He said voters have responded to his more aggressive criticism over the past week of Gingrich's work for mortgage giant Freddie Mac, his ethics probe and his resignation as House of Representatives speaker.

"There's no question that politics ain't bean bags, and we have made sure that our message is out loud and clear," Romney said on NBC's "Today" show.

Gingrich, hit hard by the more aggressive Romney strategy, branded his rival as a party insider and elite friend of Wall Street while pledging to stay in the presidential race for the long haul no matter what the outcome in Florida.

"On big philosophical issues, he is for all practical purposes a liberal and I am a conservative and that's what this fight is going to be about all the way to the convention," Gingrich said of Romney on "CBS This Morning."

Romney shrugged off the attacks, drawing cheers from the crowd when he said Gingrich was not doing too well and had been "flailing about."

"I know, it's sad isn't it?" Romney said, calling it "painfully revealing" and adding: "You've just gotta shake your head."

The bitter back-and-forth in Florida was hardly surprising after two turbulent weeks in what is widely considered the most volatile Republican race for the White House in recent memory.

Just 10 days ago, Romney was limping out of South Carolina, where he came in second. Now Florida is his for the taking after prominent conservatives and party leaders threw their weight behind him, worried a Gingrich nomination would doom Republicans in November's general election against President Barack Obama.

Gingrich said heavy spending by Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, and the Super PAC that supports Romney had killed the momentum Gingrich built with a double-digit win over Romney on January 21 in South Carolina.

"He can bury me for a very short amount of time with four or five or six times as much money, most of it raised in Wall Street from the guys who got bailouts from the government," Gingrich said on ABC's "Good Morning America."

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released late on Monday showed Romney had edged up to 43 percent among likely voters in Florida's primary, from 42 percent on Sunday.

Support for Gingrich slipped to 28 percent from 30 percent a day earlier, 32 percent on Saturday and 33 percent on Friday.

Other polls also have shown Romney opening up a double-digit lead on Gingrich, although a few suggest the result could be more of a nail-biter than expected on Tuesday night.

'JUST GETTING STARTED'

The Gingrich campaign worked to spread the idea that he was staying in the race long-term. "Our capacity to tell the truth about Romney's record is limitless. We will challenge Mitt Romney and his lies in every state in every contest," said Gingrich spokesman R. C. Hammond.

At least 1,114 delegates are needed to secure the Republican nomination in August. Florida is the largest state to hold a presidential primary so far this year, and 50 delegates are at stake in a winner-take-all format that will decide who faces Obama.

Baker said even if Romney wins in Florida it will give him just 7 percent of the delegates needed to claim the nomination. The next contest after Florida will be Nevada on Saturday, followed by Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri on February 7.

"There is a long way to go before either candidate clinches the nomination, and this campaign will continue for months," he said. "The campaign is shifting to a new phase where opportunities are not limited to a single state."

Talking to reporters on Monday, Romney noted Gingrich's growing interest in the campaign's long haul.

"That's usually an indication that you think you're gonna lose. When you say 'I'm gonna go on no matter what happens,' that's usually not a good sign," Romney said.

Gingrich said opposition to his candidacy by Republican Party insiders was a badge of honor and a sign of how threatening his candidacy was to the elite.

"They recognize I'm a genuine outsider. I know a lot about Washington having served as speaker but have none of the establishment ties and I will shake the system up. They don't want to be shaken up," he said on CBS.

Both candidates crisscrossed Florida in a final hunt for votes on Monday. The two other remaining Republican contenders, former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum and U.S. Representative Ron Paul, are looking beyond Florida to the next races in Nevada, Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri.

Gingrich was introduced at an afternoon event in Tampa by former presidential rival Herman Cain, who dropped out of the race in November after allegations of sexual harassment and marital infidelity. Cain endorsed Gingrich on Saturday.

"He's the only candidate that talks about and supports the idea of throwing out the tax code in order to get jobs going in this country. Throw it out!" Cain told the crowd.

When Gingrich took the stage, he prompted the crowd to chant "9-9-9" - Cain's frequently cited plan to reform the tax code. "You just made his entire day," Gingrich said.
