Cold temperatures will greet the Northeast on Wednesday morning as a frigid blast of Arctic air makes its last push into the region. Northern portions of New England will see temperatures dip into the -10s with some of the coldest valleys likely to drop even further, into the -20s.
Daytime temperatures will rebound somewhat from Tuesday's frigid readings, but most locations throughout the Northeast won't rise above the freezing mark.
While cold air hang on overnight in the Great Lakes region, lake effect snow should cut off in the very early morning hours as cold northwesterly winds stop blowing over the lakes. Snowfall accumulations through Tuesday evening are expected to reach over 2 feet in some of the most favored areas.
The Plains will see a few areas of cloud cover, but dry weather is anticipated throughout the region. The Gulf Coast will see warming temperatures, but the rest of the country 1/4's middle will see steady temperatures.
The West will also be mostly clear, with temperatures warming up again. Dry conditions are anticipated everywhere except the Northwest where the tail of a Pacific storm will push through Washington. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday have ranged from a morning low of -16 degrees at Ely, Minn. to a high of 80 degrees at Riverside March, Calif.
